Industrial Hygiene is the scientific and analytic approach to anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, preventing and controlling environmental factors arising in or from the home, school or workplace environment that may cause: sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers or among members of a community.

What is an industrial hygienist?

A professional Industrial Hygienist is an individual who possesses a bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, or a closely related biological or physical science; and has a minimum of three years of industrial hygiene experience. A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) has met the requirements established by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and maintains professional and educational involvement through recertification every five years.

What are industrial hygiene services?

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Assessments – IAQ assessments include the design of sampling protocols and environmental sampling. Examples of the types of samples taken include: fungi (mold), lead, volatile organic compounds (VOC), formaldehyde, particulates, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Environmental comfort parameters such as temperature and relative humidity are also assessed. The sample data are then interpreted by an Industrial Hygienist and recommendations are provided.
